Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2019 – Who to watch

The bridal fashion trends for the coming year of weddings is set to hit the catwalks of Barcelona on the 23rd

Usually, bridal fashion week is a bit earlier in the month, and we are all on pins and needles waiting to see what the designers are going to be showing us at the penultimate bridal fashion shows in Barcelona.

We each have our favorites here at Invitations by R Squared.  For some, Vera Wang can do no wrong.  For others of us, it’s all about Monique Lhuillier and her uber romantic silhouettes.

We’re going to talk about some designers.

Yes, we’re going to talk about dresses.  OF COURSE, we’re going to talk about dresses!  We’re aware of some of the big trends we’re going to be seeing from Barcelona bridal fashion week.

Simple Victorian and Bohemian inspired gowns win simple fabrics like cotton and rough silk are going to be making a big mark on the festivities.

Feathers.  Remember a couple of years ago, Vera Wang brought us that black wedding ensemble with the feathered skirt with the silk crop top?

A couple of us were over the moon about it, while others were all, “A BLACK wedding dress?  Are you kidding me?”  But we all agreed – the feathers were amazing.  You’ll be seeing them as skirts as well as accessories and gown enhancements.  Think something along the lines of epaulettes.

Sheer overlays, colorful florals and applique galore!

Designers are showing white or ecru form fitting gowns with flowing romantic sheer lace overlays.  This element opens up a whole world of possibilities with colors and textures.

The silk watercolor gowns and dip dyed gowns are still making their presence known.  Silk floral applique along with some subtle bling (think beads and crystals – but not tons) is going to be huge this coming year.

And what can we say about dip-dye?  It’s colorful, it’s fresh and it’s perfect for a beach destination wedding!

Now, we’re going to note a few of the over 400 brands and designers who bring their art to Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week.  We’ve looked at their sneak previews and Wow! are we excited!  We think these are worth watching.

Aire Barcelonah came into being in 2004 as a revolution in bridal fashion with the aim of offering excellent designs and patterns for the most discerning brides, at affordable prices. Aire Barcelona has come to be seen as a brand with modern, on-trend bridal and party dresses.

Beba’s Closet is the gateway to a bridal universe of exquisite dresses that are never conventional and spring from emotion and attention to detail. Unique artisan embroidery, dreamy fabrics and contemporary outlines are the hallmarks of Beba’s bridal world, created for women with a particular aesthetic sensitivity and no pretentiousness.

Christina Tamborero’s passion for fashion and her obsession with the tiniest details have led her to design Bride and Party collections. Her designs are unique, meticulously made, indulgent and individually tailored. They are all made with the fine, hand embroidered fabrics that perfectly define Cristina’s collections. An allusion to age-old haute couture, brought forward to the current day.

We love what designer, Fely Campo says about her art.  “I want to transmit a feeling and a passion for my craft through my dresses: fashion, the handling of the fabrics, their touch, their volume and their behavior when I work with them, mix them and shape them, to see them finally come alive when a woman puts on a dress, walks, moves, breathes and lives with it; it’s magical.”

Isabel Zapardiez brings today’s brides artisanal and made-to-measure creations for every woman and exquisite tailoring performed in her workshops with her direct involvement. Her collections transport the whole range of female garments to the Haute Couture universe in a recreation of an urban and cosmopolitan woman.

Her hallmarks: a wide array of fabrics, the reinterpretation of classical haute couture patterns and innovation.  Very new and very fresh.

Julia Kontogruni has 10 years of international experience and she has become an emblem of high fashion, with the European standard of quality and craftsmanship.

The brand has a personalized touch towards each of its creations with sophisticated details, that give each gown an elegant and unique polish. With precision and a lot of risk Julia Kontogruni has been able to provide a new vision for what a wedding dress should be – stylish, exclusive and ahead of its time.

British-born Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig have built their global fashion brand – Marchesa – by elegant eveningwear and one-of-a-kind couture designs. Based in New York, the company’s namesake is the noted eccentric European style icon Marchesa Luisa Casati.

The collection, designed by Georgina Chapman, is coveted not only by celebrities, but by women of all ages as Marchesa has evolved into a full lifestyle brand.

The designers Marco Marrero and Maria Diaz set out on their professional careers in 1990 in Tenerife and set-up their firm two years later. Their bridal and party creations have always had a unique style all of their own. The distinct vintage vibe and the dramatic nature of their work have become the label’s hallmarks and have led to its collections being available in specialist wedding shops in over 30 countries.

Mireia Balaguer is another big new talent at Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week.  Daring, risky and confident; that’s how these designs are. “We dress dreams. We swap the wand for the sewing machine, magic powders for patterns and words for designs,” says Balaguer.

With effort, work, creativity and ingenuity they have polished their gowns into exclusive and personalized pieces. That makes the brand special and unique.

Poesie Sposa was born in 1998 from Isabella Taglieferri’s passion for Haute Couture, which urges her to travel in search of the most sophisticated collections of wedding dresses. A few years later, the partnership with Elisa Orlandini made Poesie Sposa what it is today, a workshop of creativity that feeds on the love for beauty.

All collections are inspired by the world of poetry and, through poetry, pay homage to love.

Sofía Arribas, an architect by profession, dresses contemporary women and turns weddings into fashion statements; none of her fashion shows leave anyone unmoved.

The new 2020 collection is resounding, powerful and classic, but also feminine, subtle and delicate; once again, she pays tribute to her Basque origins.
