Forego the big hometown “do” for your nearest, dearest, and closest to have a vacation AND share the most momentous, magical even in your life.
Beach destination weddings in gorgeous tropical locations have never been hotter. But if you’re considering tying the knot in paradise, then do as so many destination wedding planners suggest; visit the location first to see if the overall vibe fits in with your vision. Do it for research, and the greater good! A very good reason for a celebrate-the-engagement trip.
After much discussion amongst the team, here’s our top seven favorites of the world’s most exotic, most romantic tropical wedding destinations.
Beyond its stellar beaches and top notch tourist services, one of the main reasons this Dutch Caribbean island is so popular is its amazingly consistent glorious weather. Aruba is arid and outside of the hurricane belt, so sunshine is the order of the day all year-round.
Destinations to consider are Bucuti & Tara Beach Resorts for intimate adult-only affairs, or the Divi group all-inclusive resorts for families and the budget conscious. The Renaissance Aruba Resort even has its own lovely little private island for weddings, and most Aruba resorts have dedicated wedding planners and wedding planning websites to ensure that your needs are all met.
St. Maarten/St. Martin
Half-Dutch and half-French, this duel nation island offers services in both of Canada’s official languages. The vibe on each side of the island is very different; the Dutch side is lively and cosmopolitan, while the French side is laid-back Creole-Caribbean.
For luxury weddings, La Samanna is historically the grandest game in town, and for families and larger groups, Divi Little Bay is a great choice. For secluded romance, the Hotel Riu Palace St. Maarten is tucked away in its own private bay and The Cliff Cupecoy Beach offers stunning seaside settings for ceremonies.
Cancun & The Riviera Maya
The environmental diversity of this area of Mexico provides tons of unique settings beyond beautiful beaches. Historic Mayan ruins, lush rain forests and scenic vistas also provide perfect backdrops.
For an upscale, adult-only all-inclusive, Secrets Capri Riviera Cancun is your best bet, while for large groups the side-by-side sister resorts Casa Magna Marriott and JW Marriott Cancun host in supreme luxury. Dreams Puerto Aventuras is a perfect choice for families, and for luxury Boho-style, Villa Rolandi on Islas de Mujeres is the perfect location.
Lush and exotic St. Lucia boasts scenery that recalls the South Pacific, thanks to its famous towering volcanic features and fertile forests. The all-inclusive Rendezvous is designed exclusively for couples, and serves as an idyllic spot to tie the knot.
For a family-friendly all-inclusive resort experience, St. James’s Club Morgan Bay is ideal as a lively resort in a private cove for your beach destination wedding, while for something more upscale the luxury boutique Ladera, overlooking the sea, boasts some spectacular backdrops.
We can’t say enough about Puerto Rico. We’ve highlighted it before, but this county, steeped in color and history, with ancient forts cresting cobblestone streets, also boasts a lush rain forest in its interior and idyllic beaches on its coasts. For a romantic destination wedding site, the old city of El Convento is a luxury venue that echoes the island’s colonial past.
Those seeking a more modern, cosmopolitan beach venue can choose the San Juan Marriot Resort on picturesque Condando Beach, or the satellite island of Vieques where the W Resort offers additional contemporary beach wedding options.
Famous for its magnificent arches and well documented as a playground for the jet set, Los Cabos resorts now offer more moderately priced all-inclusive resort options for the not so rich and famous.
If your budget can accommodate the cost, Esperanza is the chic and exclusive escape.
Home of the famous blue liqueur and known for its candy-colored waterfront buildings, Curacao is packed with culture, ethnic food experiences, and idyllic beaches. Sunscape Resort is a lively all-inclusive resort for families and groups, and Santa Barbara Resort is cosmopolitan and trendy, on its own private beach.
For luxury, downtown Sandton Kura Hulanda Resort is incredibly unique, and its sister resort Kura Hulanda Lodge has one of the world’s only tree-house mansions.
