Florida Beach LGBTQ Destination Weddings

LGBTQ destination weddingWe are grateful that marriage is now a universal right for everyone in the US.

We’re told that despite that same sex weddings are legal; many wedding planning professionals still get calls asking if they’re willing to do same sex ceremonies.

Moons ago, when gay marriage was legal in only a few US states, it had to be a commitment ceremony – weddings without the license.

Florida became the 36th state to legalize same sex marriage!  Soon to be followed by the Supreme court’s decision to legalize same sex marriages across the United States.

Florida is the perfect place to enjoy the relaxing and more casual environment that the beach offers as the ambiance to your LGBTQ destination wedding.  Just pack a bag and get away!

You can also elope to Florida for your sunset wedding, just the two of you, and have a romantic exchange of promises barefoot on the beach.

Or your dreams can come true with an elegant Florida beach wedding-complete with officiant, photographer, beautifully decorated bamboo arbor, music, flowers and as many guests as you desire to LGBTQ destination weddingshare your special day with.

Sun and Sea Beach Weddings specializes in Florida beach weddings and vow renewals, all on the East Coast of Florida, with a huge range of available venues.

So, the law changed, not everyone’s support changed.  Many states are still full of discrimination and inequality. You can get married in your own state, but you may not feel comfortable with how you will be treated. That’s a darn shame.

Florida has always been friendly and welcoming to the LGBTQ community and has embraced marriage equality, embracing LGBTQ destination wedding events.

Here are a few of our favorite places for a romantic and magical beach LGBTQ destination wedding:

Tucked just south of St. Augustine, and near the Matanzas Inlet, lies River to Sea Preserve.

This beach access is one of our team’s favorite locations for a coastal ceremony.  Most couples are looking for a location that offers a combination of natural’s beautiful scenery and privacy.  A beach wedding at River to Sea Preserve will offer those exact perks.

LGBTQ destination weddingWith the beach being further south of St. Augustine, this area gets less traffic than the main beaches up North.  The lack of buildings keeps the greenery and dunes intact, making lovely backdrops for the photography.  One of the most unique characteristics of this beach location is the rock formations.  The various rocky areas along the beach provide diversity in the wedding photography.

This area also offers to great options for Receptions.  The Whitney Lab is an indoor/outdoor option that is just right across the street.  The Pavilion at River to Sea is also a great choice for couples looking to keep a simple outdoor feel to their receptions.

The Omni is on a beautiful property of lush greenery. The resort’s beach is private and secluded, which created an intimate environment for the ceremony and reception.

Picture it!  The twenty guests in attendance are asked to sit as the ceremony begins, and one half of our wedding couple heads down the aisle, preceded by wedding party members walking ahead with bouquets of eggplant calla lilies.  Live guitar music plays softly in the background.

As the couple takes their walk towards the ceremony space, everyone stands and admires this gorgeous couple.  The ceremony begins, the couple says their vows and do a sand ceremony combining different colored sands to symbolize the joining of two people.LGBTQ destination wedding

As photos are taken, guests gather under the 20X40 tent to enjoy lemonade and tea as well as assorted fruits and vegetables. Live music continues during the reception, with the couple joining their party as they have now finished with taking photos. The sun begins to set as the party ends and people leave the beach to return to The Omni to enjoy dinner and possibly clubbing.

Then there’s Amelia Island!

What’s not to love about Amelia Island and the surrounding areas of Fernandina Beach?  These beach destination wedding areas are ideal backdrops to say, “I do”.

Filled with natural beauty, history, parks and resorts, Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach are the perfect place for your family and friends to experience Florida’s true gem.  Historic Centre Street offers a boutique feel with a wide array of quaint shops including antiques, art, spa/salons, jewelry and clothing as well as amazing cafés and restaurants.

The surrounding area offers an assortment of accommodations for you and your guests to.

The beautiful island offers pristine golf courses, beach horseback riding, bike/scooter/kayak rentals and much more.  Fort George Island and Little Talbot Island are two parks that are a must while in town.

LGBTQ destination weddingIf boating is more your style you can charter a fishing boat and go deep sea fishing or take a long walk on one of many nature walks in the area.  Amelia Island also offers a wealth of museums, tours as well as plantations to see as well.

The blue Florida beaches are stunning, and you have numerous wedding venues to choose from.  Seaside Park, for example, is a centrally located beach in the heart of Amelia Island.

In the vicinity are parking areas, several covered pavilions, picnic tables as well as a boardwalk to this beautiful beach.  Not only is the beach attractive, but there are also several venues that are available for celebrating your big day.

Sliders Seaside Grill is an oceanfront restaurant/bar with a recently completed upstairs facility overlooking Seaside Park.  Slider’s also has a separate facility for rent that is completely private and oceanfront.

Peter’s Point located on the south end of Amelia Island boasts the best of both worlds…Parking is plentiful for our larger beach ceremonies and the beach is wide and beautiful, no worries about the tide. LGBTQ destination wedding

The Amelia Island Plantation is another common selection for ceremonies and lodging.  Nestled into the natural surroundings of the Island.  This historic resort is a nice choice for any destination wedding on the island.
