Every bride wants to be unique on her wedding day, but they still want to be up-to-date and trendy as well. Colors come and go in popularity, and this coming spring wedding season is no exception with a surprising return and some new contenders. Bubblegum pink is making a big return this spring, but we will also see gorgeous shades of coral and melon, along with the predicted front-runners of orchid and aqua for your wedding dress and wedding colors.
As far as fashion in bridal wear, some of you know that Bridal Fashion Week just ended in New York. We generally don’t see huge changes in bridal fashion from season to season, but there are trends about which brides-in-planning might want to be aware. It’s always fun to take a quick peek and see if there’s something new and fab that might inspire you!
Designers showed us a lot of different looks, including a return to a look that is quite traditional, including a lot of long sleeves for spring. Very sheer and lacy sleeves that give the illusion of a lot of coverage were dominant with lots of accents in embroidery, beading, crystals and sequins.
Some of the designers featured at Bridal Fashion Week brought out lines for brides that want to show off their bodies. While the trend of “return to tradition” was, in fact, dominant, there is an opposing trend of very low cut backs and back of the dress illusions, cut-outs, illusion panels and lots of lace peeking out.
Body-conscious brides will have lots from which to choose if they’re going for a more contemporary look. You can see some of the body-conscious trends here.
Slinky, corset bodiced gowns are ala Madonna in the ‘90’s are going to be super-hot for spring and summer ceremonies. While many of these gowns are going for a body-conscious and contoured look, the added lacey accents, gorgeous appliques and subtle bling will keep gowns of this type from appearing too much like undergarments. This look is perfect for the trend in off-beat weddings.
With the trend in the sexy low-cut back comes an equally adventurous trend in plunging necklines. Of course, the counter to this is those designers who gave us some truly beautiful and unique higher – even mock turtleneck – collars done in lace and tulle.
Feathers were an element presented in both traditional and non-traditional formats. Designers have shown us everything from traditional skirting completely covered in fluttery feathers in white through every shade of ivory and blush right through wedding gown designer, Vera Wang, showing us a stellar gown with a cascading feathered skirt, paired with a fun bandeau-style crop top IN BLACK. The repeat wearability for this look is outstanding!
The pastels we saw last spring season are still on board to be popular for spring 2016. This season, expect to see a lot of pretty pastel and watercolor prints to off-set the non-traditional and off-beat ceremonies that are growing in popularity. When selecting a print of any kind, be mindful of your floral selections to avoid a clash. Imagine how beautiful a dress like this would be for your beach destination wedding!
We’ve all heard of the Little Black Dress, and most of us have at least one in our closets. This year’s bridal collections featured a number of variations on the Little WHITE Dress. The LWD is perfect for destination wedding ceremonies, civil ceremonies, second weddings, re-commitment ceremonies, and rehearsal dinners or receptions. Oscar de la Renta presented not one, but four versions of the LWD at Bridal Fashion Week! You can see examples of these here.
One of the most surprising trends we’ve seen is the bridal silhouette that features pants in many variations. A pair of well-cut and fitted trousers tend to give any woman – and especially a bride – tons of attitude and swagger. Expect to see chic white tuxedos and amazing, glamorous jumpsuits this year as well. Some designers offered strapless jumpsuits in chiffon and lace that were to die for!
