There are literally dozens and dozens of predicted wedding trends that affect every aspect of your big day – and most especially for your Save the Date cards and wedding invitation suite.
At Invitations by R Squared, we see tons of wedding trends rise up and then disappear every year. Some look promising at first but wind up fizzling in the first months of a year of weddings. Even trends in your wedding invitation suite are not exempt.
Your wedding invitation is your guests’ first real look at your dream wedding, so it should set the mood for your big day and create a sense of anticipation.
Plan to invest some time looking for just the right Save the Date cards, wedding invitations and all of the other additional elements that really reflect the wedding you are planning. It helps, of course, to work with a wedding stationer with a huge heart for their brides, and creativity galore. Like this one.
If you are stuck for inspiration, here are some fabulous collections of wedding images – curated by our team, of course – right here.
We talked with a broad community of wedding planning professionals to get some hot tips, ideas, and trends to help you make this all-important choice.
Here is the best of what they found:
Simple and classic. Of all the wedding invitation trends that have come and gone, we are thrilled that this one is still on the boards for this coming year. Simple and traditional, the classic style is back again, incorporating filigree patterning and lacy designs to create for a sophisticated wedding that looks and feels like a dream.
Wrapping the invitation with ribbon, lace, leaves or some other special token is a simple way to complete the package before it goes into your envelopes. Trends are steering away from burlap twine, but there are many other elements to use with this quaint and whimsical touch.
Gold. We all love it and can’t seem to get enough of it! If you are including metallic details in your wedding day, consider using a gold foiling printing technique for your invitations. It turns out just beautifully.
It’s hard to compete with this glitzy trend. Be adventurous with a heavily patterned gold design, or use the technique to highlight your names or your wedding date. Silver foil is a close runner-up, and copper is not far behind. Consider mixing two metallic foils for a daring design.
Invitations don’t have to conform to standard paper sizes. Have a little fun with your wedding invitation suite and go for a circle or a custom shape! Just keep in mind that it will cost more to mail an envelope that is rigid, nonrectangular or not uniformly thick.
Calligraphy is hot stuff right now, and totally worth the splurge. As soon as your guests see it in their mailbox, they will be instantly overjoyed.
If your wedding is leaning more towards the vintage vibe, know that you’re not alone – vintage looks are high on the list of modern wedding and wedding invitation trends. When choosing your wedding invitation suite, look for something that makes you feel nostalgic, romantic, and all out gorgeous.
For those fashion-forward and savvy brides, who want to stay on top of the trends, Pantone announced their color of the year as ‘ Greenery’ in the Fashion Spring 2017 Pantone Color Report : the 10 trending colors of the fashion season, as determined by Pantone every year. This could help you plan your color palette for your Save the Date cards, wedding invitations, and bridesmaid dresses right through all your other wedding styling and décor.
Pantone’s color palette for 2018 will not be released until December.
